The picturesque Grmečica Waterfall is but a short hike away, making it a convenient family destination. The 8-metre high waterfall empties into a larger pool before joining the Sava Bohinjka River slightly further down. An excellent choice for all seasons.

This exquisite mountain pasture is a gem of nature in the embrace of Pokljuka forests. Prepare to be enchanted by its spacious pastures, shepherd huts and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. A cheese dairy is open here in the summer, also offering a taste of its products.

The Blejska koča mountain hut is perfect if you are after a short hike and a pleasant lunch in the mountains’ embrace. It is also a stop frequented by more experienced climbers on their way to Debela peč, a member of Slovenia’s 2,000-metre club. The hut offers spectacular views of Pokljuka plateau’s forests.

Lipanski vrh summit

The Lipanski vrh summit is best approached from Mt Lipanca and will reward you with a beautiful view of Triglav and the surrounding peaks. From the top you can continue towards Debela peč or return to Mt Lipanca for a spot of lunch at the Blejska koča mountain hut.

Mt Debela peč is a fairly easily accessible 2,000-meter peak on the edge of the Pokljuka plateau and thus a popular hiking destination. From Debela peč views open towards Triglav and other peaks of the Julian Alps.

The one-of-a-kind Lake Bled is one of Slovenia’s biggest attractions. Admire its beauty during a walk around the lake, take a boat ride to the island in the middle of the lake, go for a swim, do some other water sports, or simply while away the hours in one of the lakeside cafés and enjoy the wonderful views.

A Boat Ride to the Bled Island

Take a ride to Lake Bled’s famous island on a traditional ‘pletna’ boat. Explore the island, climb the 99 steps to the church and ring the wishing bell. Spend some time on the island and enjoy the beautiful views.

The Bled Castle stands atop a steep cliff above Lake Bled and affords magnificent views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. This is Slovenia’s oldest castle and boasts a rich history, which you learn all about at the castle museum. There is also an excellent restaurant, where you can enjoy some fine cuisine.

Not only is Lake Bled a sight to behold, it is also perfect to cool off on hot summer days. The Castle Bathing Area (Grajsko kopališče), where you can swim from June to late September, offers all the necessary bathing and beach facilities. It is a perfect spot for families with children, as it has a number of play areas.

The Velika Zaka beach is a popular swimming spot in the little bay on the northern shore of Lake Bled. The areas next to the swimming spot are mostly grassy and all the necessary facilities are   nearby. Boats can be rented to explore the lake and there are playgrounds to keep children entertained.

The Vintgar gorge is a popular excursion point near Bled. You can explore the gorge, which has been carved out by the river Radovna, while walking over many bridges and galleries just a few meters above the water. The unspoiled nature is a wonderful place to unwind and cool off in the summer.

If you are looking for the most beautiful views of Lake Bled and the surrounding area, a hike to the Mala and Velika Osojnica hilltops is a perfect choice. To get to Mala Osojnica, follow a steep forest path during a 45-minute hike. Velika Osojnica is another 20 minutes away. Once there, you will be rewarded with an unforgettable view!
